Coach Calande's Double Wing Football Site Creator of the G.O.O.D. - G.O.D. Blocking System & 46 "GAMBLER" Defense
The 46 Gambler Defense DVDs
The 46 defense was invented and popularized by Buddy Ryan. This highly effective 46 Gambler defense was developed by Head Junior High Coach Steve Calande. It's an attacking 50 front with pure man and man free coverage. Coach Calande has helped countless coaches at all levels turn around their teams' fortunes with his philosophy of "stuff the runner and smash the passer". There are close to 40 stunts and blitzes available to a Gambler coach. It's simply fun and aggressive. This is a homemade, low budget, no frills coaching video that include highlights, defensive alignment rules, drills to develop player skill, and more. This 2 DVD set isn't fancy (**please read note below), but it's a great investment for all coaches interested in running the 46 Defense.
**PLEASE BE ADVISED- This DVD set is copy of a VHS tape. As a result, you will find the DVD video is somewhat grainy. Disc 2 of this set covers stunts and contains clinic footage. Disc 2 video quality is poor and the audio is flawed. We've chosen to include Disc 2 however, b/c it still offers lots of useful information.
"Just wanted to say, we are 6-0 using the 46G. We have given up only 24 points this season. This past weekend we played the highest scoring team in our league (122 pts. in 5 games) and we shut them out 14-0. They had only three first downs and threatened only once late in the first half by getting to the 30 yard line. By the way, they also had the PREVIOUS best defense. Thanks,Mike Sophomore Deer Park Tigers Deer Park, Texas"

"Steve, you will appreciate this. Played a team that came at us Gambler style on Saturday. Did not realize it right away as they jumped us with it after our first possession ended with a turnover inside their 10 yard line. First possession: double winged it down their throats and fumbled on second and goal. Then we got "Gambled." We bent them, but did not ever break it. Cudos to you again. DRATS ! They had awesome DE's (big and fast) and they played your system perfect. Our tackles could not reach them all day long and always had outside arm free if we did get there. Our best plays were our "Raptor Screen" - quick screen to a twins formation where we rub off the defender. Hit that several times for 10+.....the other two were a bubble pass from spread and a QB draw from full spread where lone back goes in motion and Mike follows him wide, looks like pass and QB takes two steps and hits the hole. Only player left to make tackle is Fred as others have to cover. That went for about 15 yards. All this happened, of course, after we found it impossible to run the ball thanks to you!!! LOL !!! I was looking for another page on my play sheet as I exhausted all the DW runs !! Plus, you would think after reading all the Gambler posts I would know it when I see it right away. But attacking that thing is a different story. Once running game was defeated we went no huddle and spread it out. Moved between the 10's but never found the end zone. Game ended with first and goal on the their 10 and trailing 20-0..."-Bucscoach

"I thought I would share my success of my team since we have now been involved in a scrimmage and have played our first game. At the scrimmage, the 46 Gambler shut everyone down. We scrimmaged two teams and both never came close to scoring. One of the teams had negative yardage while the other team had a run of about ten yards because my right DE was reached, other than that one play they pretty well shut them down all day. Last week was our first game and we won it 36-0. They never gained a yard and finished with -24 rushing on the day. I had fixed the end getting reached from the scrimmage and he handled any "C.R.A.B.S" play that came his way. As for offense, I am running the DW with GOD blocking rules. We ran a total of 13 offensive plays on the day counting extra point attempts!! Now this was a very poorly coached team, but to say the DW was unstoppable on this day would be an understatement!! We play our next game in two weeks and I cannot wait. I think we are going to do really well this year. I appreciate your help, especially with the 46 Gambler and what few questions I have had concerning the defense. Thanks again."- Freddy
The 46 Gambler Defense Coaching Manual
The "Hit Squad" Defense
I am proud to announce the completion of my 46 Gambler coaching manual entitled "The Hit Squad Defense". For the better part of 6 years now I have researched the 46 Defense and fine tuned my 46 Gambler defense into one of the most dominating defensive packages in the country. Its highly sought after and often imitated, never duplicated! This manual is nicely bound with a plastic cover, vinyl backing and packing the punch of 74 pages explaining every detail of the dominating defensive package. This defense is appropriate for High school kids down to the age of 7. The alignment is sound at any level and the stunts will destroy most youth offenses "dead cold". You can use all of the stunts, drills and fronts in the package or water them down to suit your style. The base 46 is a tough nut to crack and this manual, along with my dvd set will make you a 46 Gambler master in no time. I have spent hundreds, maybe thousands of hours putting the Gambler into its lastest form. Im pleased and proud to be able to package it and share it with the many interested coaches around the world!

"Steve, The defense rocked at the jamboree. Out of 30 plays...76 total yards, 3 sacks and 5 plays for losses! My de's are the keys. Mike & Will are good athletes and tacklers, but my ends are the "enforcers" (thats their nickname). My Fred is a "football smart" kid with good closing speed..he is my captain. You should have seen these 8-10yr olds communicating on the field, anyone who thinks that the Gambler is too complicated to teach under 10's is wrong. I talk & walk it every day for 15 mins.- Paul"
